DOMAIN NAMES

Domain names are the equivalent of your postal address on the internet. It tells the browser where your website is on the internet by routing it to your web hosting.

Choosing a domain name

When choosing a domain name you should try to choose one that is relevant to your company name or is easily remembered. The best domain name is one that reflects your business function e.g. If your company sells “luxury handbags” then the best domain to have would be www.luxuryhandbags.co.uk. This has the added benefit of being your primary keywords and helps greatly with the search engine optimisation of your website.

If your first choice of domain name is not available try splitting the words with dashes such as www.luxury-handbags.co.uk.

Registering a domain name

There are a number of sites that allow you to check if a domain name is available. We love the simplicity of using 123Reg.co.uk as we find them their systems the easiest for buying, managing and renewing your domain name.

Setting up email accounts

Most domain name registration companies give you the option to set up email accounts along with the domain name, we offer free email accounts with all domain names purchased through Webphoria or can set you up with email addresses if you have already bought a domain name.

Renewing a domain name

When your domain name is due for renewal you will normally receive an email from the registrar informing you that the domain name is about to expire. Log into your control panel to renew your domain. Even if your domain name has expired you are still given upto 80 days to renew the domain before it gets released to the general public.

We always recomend you register and own your own domain names
